Do the thing because you like to

Everything good in my life came from learning the ukulele, including how I stumbled into photography, my daughters Ruthie & Kenzie, my wife Molly, and our pup Etta James.

Wait, did you come here to read about wedding photography? Hang in there, we're getting to that.

In my senior year of high school, I took photography as a blow-off class. It wasn’t long before I was skipping Pasta Fridays at lunch to work in the darkroom, and anyone that knows me knows that I would never skip Pasta Fridays. Ever.

While on the 5-year plan at Penn State, I picked up the ukulele because of that age-old reason guys learn instruments, to impress girls.

It didn't impress girls, shocker - I know.

Fast forward a few years, and I was taking lessons from a real world-renown ukulele master.  I discovered a local uke band on YouTube doing some killer 90’s covers, and I went to see them play. The universe spoke again when I found out they were not only ukulele players, but photographers. We traded lessons, became the best of friends, and we shared the stage together.

The story goes...

the Band
Ukeandoitman

There's nothing like being the tall token white guy in an all Filipino Ukulele Hip-Hop band. I still remember the first time I met these guys.

Nowadays we don't play as much as we used to, but when we do - it's one of my favorite things to do in the world.

There's nothing like being the tall token white guy in an all Filipino Ukulele Hip-Hop cover band. We've even gotten to perform at World Cafe Live and Union Transfer. We don't play as much as we used to, but when we do, it's guaranteed to be a good, messy time.

I met my wife Molly at a wedding. (I feel I should mention here she was a venue employee, not a guest or a bridesmaid!). When I found out she had just started to learn ukulele, I knew that my mad geeky skills had paid off again. She found me on Facebook the next day and sent me a message...though she still denies that she made the first move.

Because every story is better when there is a dog in it, Molly convinced me to check out PET Finder (which is like Tinder for finding a dog). The next thing I knew, I was introducing Kenzie to Etta with her melted chocolate eyes and her crazy ears. Etta is a big fan of walks, snacks, naps, and cuddles; a perfect canine version of Molly.

Sitting around playing the ukulele with Etta James at our feet, while Molly and Kenzie sing is hands-down my favorite way to pass time.

I SWEAR, I WAS WORKING

love of my life

Our Proposal

My original plan was to propose to Molly at Kenzie's 10th Birthday. Then, COVID-19 happened...

Instead, I surprised Molly on March 20th with a latte and ring box in hand, Kenzie and Etta by my side, all of us still in pajamas.

I like that story better.

Not because we were trying to be sneaky - but we're just a little spontaneous and surprises - especially big life altering ones - are fun.

Picture this, its May-ish 2020. You're now engaged but the entire world is shut down, what do you do?

For us, we road tripped to Savannah Georgia - our favorite spot from a previous Southern trip.

The best part was hiding the whole plan from Kenzie and seeing her face light up as Molly pulled out her dress and shoes she was hiding for the ceremony.

We had our friends Ben & Erin tag along the entire day, and these photos are now a happy highlight of a crazy time in our life.

Molly was pregnant with Ruthie at the time too, which brings me to.... (keep scrolling)

AND DIDN'T TELL ANYONE 😬

WE GOT MARRIED

THEN, WE HAD A BABY

(JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE DURING THE PANDEMIC)

Ruthie is our pandemic baby. Even though she is the newest edition to the family, she's made her presence known right away.

Named after my own Nanny Ruth, she's part cute and part brute. Her curiosity is never ending as she launches face first into the next thing. You can find her asking to watch Elmo, singing along to Lizzo, or scarfing down any and all nearby fruit snacks.

My favorite thing is watching Kenzie take care of her little sister. Even though Kenzie isn't always with us, the two are so close when they are together. As soon as Ruthie wakes up in the morning, she runs over and jumps on Kenzie to wake her up so they can start playing. (Kenzie LOVES this....)

The Good Stuff

The ukulele, Kenzie’s giggle, and Molly’s ridiculous voice impressions make me smile. I’m a BIG believer in surrounding yourself with things that make you happy. The name of my business, Moon Honey, made me smile the first time I heard it.

Seeing my couples hold their wedding album for the first time makes me smile because I know how much it'll mean to them in 20 years.

JUST BE HAPPY

Connection is everything

When it comes to weddings, I can tell instantly when a couple and I are a good match (and yes, there has to be a reciprocal connection). I’ve been accused of having bromances with grooms, and been called an honorary bridesmaid.

At almost every wedding, people ask me how I know the wedding couple, assuming from our banter that I’m just a friend with a camera. By the time we get to the wedding day, I really am.

FIND CONNECTION

WHO ARE YOU

I would love to hear your story

If you love my photos, that's a good place to start.

If I sound like someone you'd want to hang out with in real life, then I'm definitely your guy.

Okay, enough about me. Now it's your turn. Click one of the buttons below and let's get this started!

Friends first.

Wouldn't it be awesome if I arrived on your wedding day, and it felt like you were seeing an old friend?

I'm going to spend more time with you then your S.O. on that day. Having a friends-first relationship allows you to let down any walls you might have up. It makes the camera less scary, lets you be yourself and at times - you'll forget I'm even there.

If you aren't sure why you're having a wedding, but know you want to be married to each other - then YOU are my kind of couple.
